Getting Started
ThingsFor.Me is a universal wishlist and gift registry platform that works with any online store. Unlike store-specific registries, you can add items from Amazon, Target, Etsy, or any website. Friends and family can easily browse your list and reserve gifts without creating an account, eliminating the awkward duplicate gift problem.
Creating a wishlist is simple: Sign up with your email or Google account, click "Create New List," give it a name (like "Birthday Wishlist" or "Wedding Registry"), and start adding items. You can add items by pasting product URLs or using our bookmarklet for one-click adding while you shop.
Yes! ThingsFor.Me is completely free to use. You can create unlimited wishlists, add unlimited items, and share with as many people as you want. We earn a small commission when purchases are made through our affiliate links, which helps keep the service free for everyone.
To create and manage wishlists, yes, you need a free account. However, gift-givers do NOT need an account. They can browse your wishlist, reserve items, and mark gifts as purchased without signing up. This makes it easy for everyone to participate.
Adding Items
There are two easy ways to add items: (1) Copy the product URL from any online store and paste it into the "Add Item" field on your list - we will automatically fetch the product details. (2) Use our bookmarklet (see below) to add items with one click while you browse.
The bookmarklet is a small button you add to your browser's bookmarks bar. When you're on a product page, just click it to instantly add that item to your wishlist. To set it up: Go to your account settings, find the bookmarklet section, and drag the "Add to ThingsFor.Me" button to your bookmarks bar. It works on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge.
Yes! For items not available online or experiences like "Dinner at our favorite restaurant," use the "Add Custom Item" option. You can add a title, description, target amount, and even an image. This is perfect for honeymoon funds, group gifts, or anything not found in stores.
ThingsFor.Me works with virtually any online store. Our system is optimized for major retailers like Amazon, Target, Etsy, Walmart, Best Buy, and Wayfair, but you can add items from any website with a shareable product URL. If automatic detection does not work for a specific store, you can always add items manually.
Gift Reservations
When someone wants to buy a gift from your list, they click "I'll Buy This" to reserve it. This marks the item as reserved so others know not to buy it, preventing duplicate gifts. The reserver can then purchase the item directly from the original store at their convenience.
Reservations are held for 48 hours. This gives the gift-giver time to complete their purchase. If they do not mark the item as purchased within 48 hours, the reservation expires and the item becomes available again. They will receive reminder emails before the reservation expires.
Yes! If you reserved an item but changed your mind, you can cancel anytime before the 48-hour window expires. Simply click on your reservation and select "Cancel Reservation." The item will immediately become available for others to reserve.
No! To maintain the surprise, list owners cannot see who reserved specific items. They only see that an item has been reserved or purchased, not by whom. After the event, gift-givers can optionally attach their name to purchased items to help with thank-you notes.
Account & Data
Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. This will permanently delete your account and all associated data within 30 days. Your wishlists will be anonymized (not deleted immediately) to preserve reservation data for gift-givers, then fully removed after the grace period.
Yes! You have the right to your data. Go to Settings > Privacy > Export My Data to download everything we have about you in a machine-readable format (JSON). This includes your profile, all lists, items, and reservations. Your request will be processed within 30 days as required by GDPR.
We collect only what is necessary: your email (for account), wishlist content (items, prices, URLs), and reservation data. We use privacy-focused analytics that don't identify individuals. We never collect payment information - all purchases happen directly with retailers. See our Privacy Policy for the complete breakdown.
Troubleshooting
If an item is missing its image, title, or price, try editing the item and refreshing the details. Some websites block automatic data extraction. You can always manually add or edit item details. If the problem persists, try removing and re-adding the item, or add it as a custom item with manual details.
First, check if you are logged into the correct account. If you forgot your password, use the "Forgot Password" link to reset it. If you are seeing a "list not found" error, the list may have been deleted or the URL may be incorrect. Contact support if you believe this is an error.
